USS Wisconsin SSBN 827 Association Hosts Public Celebration for USS WISCONSIN (SSBN 827) Day at War Memorial Center
MILWAUKEE, Wis. — Aug. 27, 2026 — The USS Wisconsin SSBN 827 Association, in partnership with the War Memorial Center and the Milwaukee Council of the Navy League of the United States, will host a public celebration honoring USS WISCONSIN (SSBN 827) Day today at the War Memorial Beer Garden, adjacent to the War Memorial Center in Milwaukee. The observance, formally proclaimed by Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers for the sixth year in a row, honors the Silent Service and highlights the state's profound maritime impact.
Occurring on August 27 to symbolically match the ship’s hull number date of 8/27, the event connects citizens with their namesake submarine, celebrating Wisconsin's rich naval heritage and shipbuilding history. Wisconsin has a proud naval legacy, with over 65 ships named after the state, its cities, and its people, reflecting her enduring impact on national defense. The celebration serves to highlight the foundational pillars of service, sacrifice, and community support for the Navy's newest ballistic missile ship.

"Governor Evers' proclamation and this gathering at the War Memorial Center highlight our state's deep commitment to the Silent Service.”
The program for the public celebration of USS WISCONSIN (SSBN 827) Day begins at 4:00 p.m. CT. Highlights of the afternoon include the Presentation of the Colors by The Lincoln Academy NJROTC Color Guard, welcome remarks by MG Brian Winski, USA (Ret), remarks by distinguished guests, the reading of Governor Evers proclamation, an update from the Association, photo opportunities with WIS 827 (the Association’s 1:11 scale model, 50 foot inflatable submarine replica, which will be making a special patrol along the shores of Lake Michigan), and a no-host social hour with sea stories and networking. Community organizations, veterans groups, schools, and local leaders across the state are participating to show their support of WISCONSIN (SSBN 827) and her crews and families.
As construction on WISCONSIN (SSBN 827) continues, the Association remains dedicated to strengthening community ties, promoting STEM education, and ensuring ongoing support for the boat and her sailors throughout her service.
