United States Submarine Veterans: Western Lake Superior Base
Co-hosted by the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center and the United States Submarine Veterans Western Lake Superior Base, twenty people gathered to watch the Keel Laying of WISCONSIN (SSBN 827) in Superior, Wisconsin. Mayor and Marine Veteran, Jim Paine, joined in the camaraderie and celebration and all enjoyed a COLUMBIA Class submarine topped cake!

The official Keel Laying Ceremony, hosted by General Dynamics Electric Boat and WISCONSIN (SSBN 827) Ship’s Sponsor, Dr. Kelly Geurts, was held at 9 AM CDT on 27 August 2025 in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. The ceremony concluded as Dr. Kelly Geurts proclaimed WISCONSIN's keel to be “truly and fairly laid.”
